Hit the Beach

Full of sandy beaches and plenty of “downeast” history, Kennebunkport bustles in the summer with visitors from near and far. But don’t worry: There’s plenty of room for everyone, and even better, there’s enough lobster for all to enjoy.

Off to a late start? Then you’re just in time to grab brunch at Musette, which is housed in a beautiful white-clapporded building and offers elegantly simple seafood creations, along with all manner of traditional breakfast fare.
Kennebunkport is rightly famous for its expansive beaches, and none are more inviting than Gooch’s Beach, where you can walk for hours, feeling the sand between your toes and the wind in your hair, while listening to the crash of the waves.

Even if you’ve had your fill of lobster rolls (and especially if you haven’t!), you need to find your way to Mabel’s Lobster Claw for a slice of the best blueberry pie this side of… well, just about anywhere. Hungrier than that? Order up the two-pound Lobster Savannah: It’s a baked lobster stuffed with scallops, shrimp, mushrooms, roasted peppers, and a creamy newburn sherry sauce, all topped with cheese. Just don’t expect to have much room left for pie.
A kayak tour along the beautiful tidal Kennebunk River is the perfect way to experience Kennebunkport from an entirely different perspective, and also to work off that blueberry pie. Coastal Maine Kayak offers rentals and guiding. And if kayaking isn’t your thing, they offer scooter and bike rentals and tours, too.
