Meet the Dockmaster
When you visit Boston Yacht Haven Inn & Marina this summer, you may encounter a new face. Meet our dockmaster, Will Conway!
How long have you been at the marina?
Since February. I'm really excited for a successful season in my first year on the property.
How long have you been boating? What did you do before coming to yacht haven?
Since I was about 12. I used to sail competitively, and I also used to go on fishing charters in Florida every year for a bit. Before I came here I was working on a yacht in the Bahamas as a mate.
When you go boating, what is one thing you always bring with you?
My dog! Her name is Stella and she is a mix of a German Shepard and an Australian Kelpie.
What is one place on your travel bucket list?
I'd like to go to Costa Rica. I want to go surfing there, it looks really cool.
If not in the marine industry, what would be your dream job?
To be a ski guide. I enjoy skiing and snowboarding, one time Burton even sent me to Canada to test out their boards. But I don't go as often anymore as I would like. I think last winter I went skiing only twice.
What is your favorite restaurant in the area?
I really like Smith and Wollensky's. I can bring my boat right there and sit outside, it's really nice.
Settle the classic boston debate: Mike's or Modern Pastry?
Neither, Bova's is the best!
Do you have any advice for a first-time boater?
Have your vessel inspected by the coast guard!
What is your favorite aspect of the marina that people should take advantage of when they visit?
It's a pretty small property, so it feels like a home. You see a lot of the same faces every day and receive one-on-one service, which is great.
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?
Head down to the Cape! I used to live on Cape Cod and I like to go fishing in that area.
